‘US Increasingly becoming fascist state’

The remarks come as the US and EU have imposed tough financial and oil sanctions against Iran since the beginning of 2012, claiming that the country’s nuclear energy program includes a military component.

However, US says it has exempted 11 nations including 10 European Union members and Japan from tough new sanctions on Iran as they have reduced oil purchase from Tehran.

Press TV has conducted an interview with American philosopher, James Fetzer from Madison to further discuss the issue.

The program also provides the opinions of two additional guests, historian and political commentator, Peter Rushton from the capital city of London and Mark Glenn with the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement from Idaho.

What follows is a rough transcript of the interview:

Press TV: Mr. Fetzer, we had breaking news right now. The US coming out exempting 11 nations including European Union members and Japan of new oil sanctions on Iran. Would you view this as a kind of retreat from the United States and is this saying that this was from the beginning an irrational decision?

Fetzer: Well, the situation really does revolve about oil, but in a slightly different fashion than Ayatollah Khomeini [the late Grand Leader of Iran] described.

It is because Iran like Iraq and Libya before it has been willing to trade for oil in currencies, other than the dollar.

It has abandoned in the petrodollar and moving to a bourse that allows transactions in international currencies that has brought about this sever response from the United States.

President Obama has claimed that he instructed Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States would not support an attack on Iran, but Netanyahu has been quoted in Haaretz and among other sources, as saying that Obama was going to privately support Israel, even though publicly condemning it.

On the front page of the New York Times today was a report that war games, conducted by the Pentagon, have shown that any attack on Iran by Israel would lead to a wider regional war and inevitably draw in the United States.

This is not news; the Pentagon conducts war games all the time. Everyone has known this to be the case for a long, long time.

But its publication on the front page of the New York Times is significant because it means that Pentagon and the President [Barack Obama], are actually allowing the people to know that if there is an attack on Iran, that the United States will be engaging in one more war, one more act of aggression that is going to have a miserable consequences where a million deaths of Iranians outright have been predicted and another 35 million premature deaths as a cloud of contamination spreads across Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

Press TV: When we are looking at what is causing that enmity between the United States and Iran, I like to have your view on this question.

Let us look at Iran as the effect that it has in the region is one of course, the Leader [Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] was saying today that when we put the gas and the oil reserves of Iran together, Iran becomes the biggest-actually-source of energy supplies in the world and this gives Iran a very strategic position in the world.

And he was mentioning issues like Iran being an independent decision maker, Iran not bowing to US pressure on, especially the issue of energy. So what is your view on that?

Fetzer: Well, I see a new international power structure, emerging in relationships between Iran, China and Russia.

I am astounded at the absence of discussion of the violations of international law, that would be entailed by a strike against Iran which would be contravene by Hague Convention of 1899, the Kellogg-Briand peace treaty of 1928, and even the United Nations charter; all of which obligate signer nation such as the United Sates to the peaceful negotiation of differences between these nations, none of which justify a first strike; especially on a country that has not attacked anyone for more than three hundred years.

I must say that there are disturbing signs that America is turning itself into an increasingly militaristic and fascist state.

The latest reports have the department of a homeland security, ordering four hundred and fifty million rounds of 40 caliber ammunition and another hundred and seventy five million rounds of 223 ammunition.

When you combine this with the development of internment facilities and the recruitment of those personnel, required to maintain them, they are shutting down of the voices that are critical of the government, from judge Napolitano, on the Fox News Network to Jesse Ventura Conspiracy Theory program.

I am afraid, that the future of the United States is looking very, very grim.

Press TV: Professor Fetzer, as your concluding remarks and briefly if you can, what do you think this is going to lead to?

Do you think that considering its situation, the US may be convinced to engage in a win-win situation at least, in the case of Iran?

Fetzer: Well, an attack on Iran by Israel or the United Sates would be one of the great atrocities of human history and it would be a blot on reputation of the United States that it could never, never shake.

We have discovered by the way that elections in the United States including in Ohio, in 2004 were manipulated by the government which are supposed to not be made public because they use techniques that are used by the CIA to destabilize and steal elections in other countries.

The ramifications here are enormous, obviously the CIA is manipulating elections right in the United States and is denying those who are exposing that the right to speak the truth.

Ron Paul is a great candidate and I agree with the previous comments.
