US has ‘colonial’ policy towards Pacific

The United States Air Force plans to dramatically expand its military presence across the Pacific this year, sending jets to Thailand, India, Singapore and Australia, according to top generals in the region, Stars and Stripes reported on Tuesday.

“The American military expansion, particularly air power, across the Pacific has been planned for two to three years. It’s a direct response to what the Americans see as Chinese provocations,” said Duff in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.

However, there have been no reports providing evidence for Washington’s claims that China is harassing oil tankers in that region, Duff said.

“The military confrontations between China and the US are increasingly becoming worrisome,” he added.

The US also plans to increase its annual military aid to the Philippines by $20 million. Washington has increased joint military exercises with the Philippines and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The military drills are part of the Obama administration’s so-called “pivot to Asia,” which involves the repositioning of American military forces throughout the Asia-Pacific region as well as strengthening US military alliances and strategic partnerships in that part of the world.

Observers believe America’s efforts to increase its presence in the region are aimed at containing China, which has emerged as the biggest threat to the US hegemony.
