The incident at The Marketplace Shopper Center in La Crescenta began at about 4 p.m. with a report that a store at the mall had been robbed, KNBC-TV reported.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said investigators believe the gunman then entered the Connect store and ordered customers and employees to leave.
The mall was emptied and the store surrounded by police officers. At around 10 p.m., a tactical team entered the store and found the man “deceased apparently by his own hand,” the sheriff’s department said.
Rite-Aid employees told KNBC a man showed a gun at the pharmacy counter and ordered workers to hand over pills. When they did so, he ran out. UPI
