US forces kill Afghan soldier

The Afghan soldier was shot dead by American troops in Laghman province on Thursday.

Meanwhile, on the third day of anti-US protests, angry demonstrators attacked foreign bases in the war-ravaged country.

Protesters attacked a US-led military base in Faryab province, setting on fire at least 12 vehicles belonging to its personnel on Thursday.

In a separate incident, thousands of demonstrators besieged the headquarters of a US military base in Laghman provincial capital of Mihtarlam east of Kabul, throwing stones at the compound and attempting to climb over its walls.

The protests erupted on Tuesday, following an incident in which US-led troops at the American Bagram Airbase and prison facility burned a large number of Islamic religious materials that included copies of the holy book of Qur’an.

At least 12 people have been killed in protests over the past 48 hours. The Afghan interior ministry blamed at least one of the deaths on “foreign guards of Camp Phoenix”, a US military base in eastern Kabul.
