US drone attack kills 4 in NW Pakistan

The incident occurred when US drones targeted a house in the Ghowa Khowa area of South Waziristan region, bordering Afghanistan.

Two drones fired four missiles at the building and it was completely destroyed in the strike, local witnesses said.

The attack was the fifth such strike in the country in less than two weeks, despite Islamabad’s repeated calls for an end to the ‘violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.’

Waziristan and other tribal regions in northwestern Pakistan have been frequently targeted by US drones over the past few years.

Washington claims its drone strikes target militants, although casualty figures clearly indicate that Pakistani civilians are the main victims of the non-UN-sanctioned attacks.

The aerial attacks were initiated by former US President George W. Bush but have been escalated under President Obama.
