“The US has broken the law and violated the rights of Iran and other countries of the world during past years and decades, all of which can be prosecuted through international judicial authorities,” Mohammad Hossein Asferi noted on Saturday.
The lawmaker, who is member of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, added that the US foreign policy is at odds with international regulations, Majlis official news agency, ICANA, reported.
“If there is a fair international tribunal in the world, such cases can be prosecuted and the US can be found guilty [in court]. However, since many of these tribunals follow US whims and wishes out of fear or subservience, they cannot be expected to hand down fair verdicts,” he said.
Asferi emphasized that Iran will not remain silent toward US lawbreaking and military threats.
“The US should stop its mischief with regard to Iran’s nuclear program as well as military threats and sanctions, otherwise, Iran will use a similar language to answer these threats,” he said.
On Thursday, July 12, a Professor of International Law and political analyst said in an article published on Press TV website that Iran should lodge a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the US-led sanctions on the country.
The prominent lawyer said there are “ample solid legal” grounds for Iran to support its claims against the US embargoes at the ICJ, including that “the US-led sanctions violate international humanitarian law” due to their negative effects on Iran’s civilian populations.”
He also mentioned imposition of the sanctions as well as threats of a military strike by the US and its allies as blatant violations of the UN Charter.
