‘US after wiping out other cultures’

“The US and Western governments are massacring other human cultures in the name of universal human rights, and this is an enormous betrayal to the humanity’s spiritual growth,” said Larijani in a meeting with members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on the sidelines of the 19th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

He also denounced a recent report by the UN Human Rights Council rapporteur on Iran.

Iran condemns as “discriminatory, unjustifiable and hostile” the move by the UN Human Rights Council to appoint a special rapporteur [on Iran], Larijani added.

He further stated that the rapporteur, former Maldivian Foreign Minister Ahmed Shaheed, failed to even pretend to be impartial in his account on the human rights situation in Iran.

Larijani emphasized that Shaheed’s report is fraught with lies and fabrications, which can also easily be found in Western media.

There is no difference between his report and those released by the US Department of State, the Iranian official noted.

On June 17, 2011, the UN Human Rights Council, under pressure from the United States and its allies, named Shaheed as its human rights investigator who accused Iran of violating human rights.

Tehran insists that the appointment of a UN Special Rapporteur on Iran’s human rights is a selective, politically-motivated and unacceptable move.

Iran has also blasted Western governments, the US administration in particular, for their relentless breach of international law, their disregard for the basic rights of their citizens and their support for human rights violations by despotic regimes around the world.
