UN slams US for human rights violations

Pillay and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation were disappointed that the US has not closed the Guantanamo Bay military base that has served as a torture camp, a Press TV correspondent in Geneva reported on Saturday.

Following the report Maldivian ambassador raised the issue of the Palestinian occupation, saying that the Palestinian people are being governed by people they never elected.

Meanwhile, the Non-Aligned Movement through the Egypt Ambassador warned the commission on the issue of discriminatory laws and acts of violence against individuals based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) 17-page report listed a number of concerns and achievements that touched on the popular uprisings across the Middle East and North Africa, to concerns about discrimination of migrants.
