Days of Palestine, West Bank -United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) official said on Monday that international donations do not meet increasing need of Palestinian refugees.
The remarks came after the announcement of the Japanese government of a new donation worth $38.21m during a meeting with the UNRWA officials in Ramallah.
UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General Sandra Mitchell said: “This donation responds to the educational and health needs of the Palestinian refugees in the region, mainly in Gaza.”
According to UNRWA statistics, about 1.3m refugees live in Gaza, 914,000 in West Bank, 447,000 in Lebanon, 2.1m in Jordan and 500,000 in Syria.
UNRWA says that the “donations do not match the increasing needs for the refugees, whose number is also increasing and the humanitarian need is increasing, mainly in Gaza, which has been under Israeli siege for ten years.”
