UN chief condemns ‘deplorable’ Tunisia attack

According to reports, on Wednesday, Ban’s deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said the UN chief “condemns in the strongest terms today’s attack” against Tunisia’s National Bardo Museum, located in the capital, Tunis, near the parliament building.

Haq also said Ban “conveys his deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this deplorable act.”

In a statement issued late Wednesday, the UN Security Council (UNSC) also slammed the attack, saying terrorist actions could threaten the North African country’s path to democracy.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also strongly condemned the incident, which left three Japanese nationals killed.

Earlier reports had placed the number of Japanese nationals killed in the incident at five.
