UK’s hypocrisy about Israel revisited

The UK FM’s move to accuse Israeli regime of seeking to entrench its illegal settlements in the West Bank comes as earlier on May, 2012, during talks with visiting Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Hague said they had a “positive” and “wide-ranging” meeting adding he was “pleased to welcome” Lieberman.

“I condemn the announcement by Israel to authorise the building of 851 new settlement units across the West Bank,” said Hague in a statement issued by the Foreign Office in London today on June 8, 2012.

“The British Government, and our EU partners, have made it consistently clear that settlement construction is illegal under international law, an obstacle to peace and should stop immediately, in line with Israel’s own commitment under the 2003 road map.”

Despite the fact that all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are considered illegal under the international law, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the construction of 300 new residential units on Wednesday June 6, after the Israeli parliament rejected a bill to legalize settlement outposts.

Britain’s move to call on Israel to respect international laws is while the major British political parties run “Friends of Israel” lobby groups in the UK parliament.

Furthermore, earlier on April, it was revealed that British Lords and MPs received at least £1.8 million from foreign governments and lobby groups in 2011 in the form of gifts, sponsorships and even in cash through cross-party groups, confirming twists in British politicians’ questionable links to the Israeli regime.
