nsnbc : Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a bill that amends Ukrainian legislation on the organization the holding of the first post-2014 coup elections to local councils and heads of local self-governments. The elections are scheduled for October 25, 2015.

The announcement about the new legislation was published by the office of the Ukrainian Presidency on Friday. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Gennady Zubko said following the adoption of the law on voluntary unification of territorial communities in February, a total of 6,300 communities announced their unification plans.
Zubko added that the amendment was a necessary precondition for holding the elections. 180 communities have conducted unification. 75 more have adopted decisions needed to participate in the local elections on October 25. Zubko said:
“It means that the remaining 105 communities would not be able to take part in the elections without this law and, hence, the state would have to spend more money to organize elections in just a month”
The legislation signed by Poroshenko amends the law on local elections and voluntary unification of territorial communities. The bill includes procedural changes to the forming of unified territorial communities. A unified territorial community is considered formed from the day of enforcement of resolutions of all the councils that took decisions on voluntary unification or from the day of enforcement of a decision on supporting voluntary unification of territorial communities taken at a local referendum.
The authority to appoint first elections in a unified territorial community has been vested to the Central Election Commission.
