UK virtual efforts doomed to fail: Iran MP

“The most rational thing to do is for the British government to fix its relations with Iran through diplomatic channels. History tells us that the Iranian people do not have positive recollection about Britain and its relations with Iran,” Siamak Morsadeq, an Iranian Jewish MP told Press TV.

“The British government should set aside its arrogant attitude and intrusive policies before trying to normalize bilateral ties.”

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) launched on March 14 a website under the title of ‘UK for Iranians’ as well as a Facebook page claiming to “take its message directly to the people, and in the absence of direct contact, to encourage dialogue.”

The British government claims that the new website is set to provide information about Britain and its policies toward Iran as well as allowing Iranians to have discussions and ask questions.

Relations between the two countries hit new lows last November after hundreds of Iranian students gathered outside the British Embassy in Tehran pulling down the UK flag to protest against the British government’s anti-Iran policies and meddling in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry expressed regret in a statement over the “unacceptable actions” of a number of protesters during the demonstrations in front of the British Embassy in Tehran.

Following the incident, the British government withdrew its diplomatic staff from Tehran and announced that the Iranian Embassy in London would also be immediately closed.
