UK unpreparedness for Olympics rapped

According to the research, 30 percent of London companies have made no contingency plans for the Olympic Games, only 11 percent are planning to allow staff to work from home, and less than a third (30 per cent) are allowing employees to work flexible hours to beat travel disruption.

MWB’s head of Olympics, Kathryn Hurt warned that this week’s stress tests, which are organized by Deloitte and Canary Wharf Group, are expected to highlight further concerns about costs and reliability.

“We’ve been calling on companies to stress-test their systems for months. Now with just 80 days to go, businesses are slowly waking up to the fact that they need to prepare. But it could be too little, too late,” Hurt said.

“Our survey shows that many London businesses are sleepwalking into a potential work nightmare. Businesses who have not thought about it are really going to be hit the hardest.”

Up to 100 London businesses will today and tomorrow perform a trial run of their plans for the Olympics, aiming to “to warm up for the big event”.

Meanwhile, according to a research by Deloitte, which is the official professional services provider to London 2012, 42 percent of companies are worried about staff unavaibility during the Olympics.
