UK to release Iranian, Azeri album

Passage To Dawn which is part of the collection titled From Shiraz to Baku is a joint production by Iranian Setar virtuoso Hamid Motebassem, Tombak player Pejman Hadadi and Azeri Kamancheh virtuoso Imamyar Hasanov, ISNA reported on Sunday.

The album was published by an Iranian recording studio in 2008 and some of its pieces were also performed in Germany and Italy in 2010.

A graduate from Tehran School of Art and the Conservatory of Persian Music, Motebassem learnt music from Iranian masters Ali Motebassem, Hossein Alizade and Mohammad-Reza Lotfi.

He is the founder of the Society of Tar and Setar and has organized annual seminars dedicated to the two instruments since 1994.

Motebassem has also collaborated with many Iranian composers and held concerts in many prestigious events such as Fes festival in Morocco, World Festival of Sacred Music the Americas in Los Angeles, Stimmen festival in Lorrach and the First UK annual Festival in London.

Azeri instrumentalist Hasanov is also among successful musicians in his country who has performed in international music festivals.

Established in 1976, ARC Music offers the largest selection of world and ethnic music from all corners of the globe. It has also published Journey to Persia, an album by Iran’s Dastan trio led by Motebassem.
