On Thursday, armed police in London carried out early-morning raids and arrested six people including three living just over a mile from the Olympic site and a former police community support officer over what they called a suspected terror plot, British media reported.
With nearly three weeks to go before the London Olympic Games start, London Metropolitan Counter-terrorism Police battered down the door of a house just one mile from the stadium in Stratford home to the sporting events and arrested three men, aged 18, 24, and 26, believed to be brothers.
The police also arrested three other people, including a woman, in West London. The 24-year-old man arrested in Stratford was injured as armed officers Tasered him during his arrest.
“I heard the biggest bang ever and I saw a massive cloud of smoke and torches going up at the windows. It sounded like they were gunshots”, said a witness living near the house in Stratford which was raided by the police.
The state-run BBC reported one of those arrested was a Muslim convert who had criticized Britain’s royal family and the British government for their military intervention in Muslim countries.
