UK parl. seeks better UK-Iran relations

Lord Waverley, Chairman of the Central Asia All Party Parliamentary Group, said Iran has supporters in the British Parliament who are interested in improving the relations between Iran and Britain, reported Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly News Agency (ICANA).

Waverley, who is in Ashgabat attending an event marking the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, said he would discuss the issue of improving relations with Iran after he returns to Britain.

Furthermore, Waverley told the ICANA that he would like to visit Tehran and meet with Iranian officials as part of a British parliamentarian group and the representative of the British people.

Waverley’s comments come ahead of the upcoming round of talks between Iran and the six major world powers (P5+1) in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Last month after the first round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 in the Turkish city of Istanbul, a spokesperson for Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said Britain “would look forward to the next round of talks” with Iran.

“Iran has a right to a civil nuclear power programme under the terms of the NPT”, said the FCO spokesperson in a written interview with Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
