London, Jul 14, IRNA – Lloyds Martin, Chief Executive of British Water, claimed that Brexit will work in favor of trade relations with Iran.
Lloyds Martin made the remarks in an interview with IRNA on Thursday.
Following is the full text interview delivered by IRNA:
Q. How do you see the outlook for doing business in Iran?
A. I am speaking on behalf of a trade association. We have a number of members who I know are very interested in the country.
The interesting thing is that our members have always traditionally had a very active outlook on countries that are new to market.
I think there is a great potential interest from our members in the likelihood of doing business within Iran.
The information that we received today has been helpful and positive; particularly the support that UKEF is prepared to give is something which is going to be very encouraging for UK water organizations.
So I should be reporting back to them how enthusiastic the meeting as a whole found the opportunities and we are looking forward to finding out more details about specific projects as a next stage of understanding better how the Iranian market will be opening for businesses.
Q. Do you think the new prime minister (Theresa May) would follow the same pattern of willingness to expand business with Iran?
A. I suppose in very simple term the UK with the BREXIT referendum vote is bound to start to look more at markets outside the EU.
So it can only probably add to the level of the interest within countries outside. Our members within British Water have a whole list of countries that they are interested to do business in. Only 30 percent are within the EU. So we’ve always had a majority of countries as being outside the European community.
I tend to think that if anything in the future our companies will begin to look to a wider market to do business with so I think it can only be positive.
