UK MPs visit porn sites 800 times a day

The shocking figures, released by Palace of Westminster IT bosses, show Members of Parliament (MPs), peers and parliamentary staff have been visiting pornographic websites more than 800 times per day in the last year.

The data was logged through the parliamentary network from May last year through to July 2013. It was recently accessed after a freedom of information request was posted.

Since the new findings, parliamentary officials have refused to say exactly what their IT systems classify as pornographic.

Complaints have been raised as to why British MPs and their surrounding staff have been spending their time searching adult websites. This recent antic adds to reports that revealed computers on the parliamentary estate had accessed Facebook 3 million times a month.

“These figures highlight the fact that many people working in Parliament are spending far too much time on websites that have nothing to do with their job,” said Matthew Sinclair, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance.

“The internet can be a useful tool for MPs and their staff when it comes to scrutinising government legislation; however taxpayers expect their MPs and those working in their offices to get on with their important jobs rather than spending time surfing questionable websites.

“It’s important that these figures are in the public domain so that taxpayers can see exactly how the time they are paying for is actually being spent”, he added.
