UK MoD blunder costs 54 thousand jobs

While the Ministry of Defense is to cut 29,000 civilian staff as well as 25,000 forces by 2015 as part of its massive spending cuts plans, The Sun said the ministry has ignored warnings by MPs that it is over spending £6.1 billion on 15 items.

The report said former Defense Secretary Liam Fox’s team, which drew the Strategic Defense and Security Review, saw no flaw in their budget planning and in their persistence played with the jobs of tens of thousands of defense staff.

However, the findings by a Commons spending watchdog shows they were horribly wrong.

The revelations are specially scandalous as the whole personnel cuts in MoD are estimated to return £4.10 billion by 2015, while the ministry could have easily prevented that from happening by managing its wastefulness on equipment.

The disclosure, which was condemned by the Labour party, would prove a shock to the MoD civilian and non-civilian personnel who could face the sack over the huge error.

“The country will be shocked at this total inaction from ministers,” shadow defense secretary Jim Murphy said.
