According to Keith Vaz, a member from the opposition Labour Party, Theresa May informed lawmakers that she only knew about G4S’s problems from July 11, but a letter had been sent by May herself yesterday, which showed her office was aware of the difficulties as early as June 27.
Vaz said: “The home secretary told the house that she only became aware of a shortfall on July 11”. He also addressed in his email statement, “However, this letter clearly states they were warned of a possible shortfall in guards on June 27 at the Olympic Security Board, two weeks before.”
This comes as G4S’s failure last week to be able to arrange all promised 10,400 security guards, caused great sense of disorganization for the Olympic events that start on July 27.
The mistake forced the British government to dispatch an extra 3,500 soldiers to make up for the error, which is being talked about notoriously in worldwide media.
Vaz explained that May’s letter shows that there were previously serious concerns about G4S’s shortfall, due to the fact that 725 military personnel were deployed and there were worries before July 11.
