Green said passengers who fly to London’s Heathrow airport from New York are likely to face longer waits at security checks if they arrive 10 minutes after a flight from Lagos or Nigeria. However, they would not have to wait in long queues if they arrive 10 minutes earlier, reported The Belfast Telegraph
Green also said the UK Border Force has no control over the timing of the flights as they “depend on the wind”.
“That will depend on the wind, over which, with the best will in the world, airlines and the Border Force don’t have the control”, said Green.
The announcement that lengthy waits at UK airports “depend on the wind” comes as long queues at airports in Britain have raised concerns over potential chaos during the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Heathrow airport in London handles an average of 190,000 passengers arriving and departing each day. However, a significant increase in the number of people using airports in London is expected during the Olympics with extra 40,000 passengers expected at the Heathrow on August 13, the day after the Games finishes.
