U.S. denies Syrian – Kurdish PYD leader Salih Muslim visa for conference in Washington D.C.

nsnbc : The United States has, for the second year, denied Salih Muslim, the leader of the Syrian – Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) a visa to speak at the National Press Club in Washington D.C.. That, despite the fact that the United States considers the PYD’s military wings, the YPG and the all-female YPJ as main allies in the war against the Islamic State in Syria.

Speaking in a video address, PYD leader Salih Muslim said “The visa was actually refused”. Muslim was invited to speak at an event under the slogan “The Other Face of Kurdistan” on May 30. “They told me about two months ago that it is refused and we are just waiting for a strong man to invite me directly,” he said. “So it’s a difficult situation.”

It the second year that he was denied visa to the USA. Last April he was scheduled to visit the forum for dialogue entitled ‘Co-Existence Through Democratic Autonomy and Self-Governance: The Kurdish Case.’ He had to attend via a Skype call.

In 2016 Salahattin Demirtas, the co-leader of the Turkish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) which stands particularly strong in Turkey’s predominantly Kurdish regions came to the National Press Club event in Washington where he gave a passionate speech talking about a path to peace for Kurdish extremists in Turkey.

Demirtas also forewarned about disagreements between the Turkish military and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). On July 16, the military in Turkey faced an unsuccessful coup d’état attempt which left 249 people dead and more than 2,000 injured.

Fetullah Gülen, Türkish cleric in self-imposed exile in the USA with long-standing links to the CIA, and allegedly involved in the failed military coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016.

Fetullah Gülen, Türkish cleric in self-imposed exile in the USA with long-standing links to the CIA, and allegedly involved in the failed military coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016.

While the AKP blamed the coup on the self-exiled Turkish Islamic cleric Fetullah Gülen who resides in the USA and Gülenist networks, many of those who were detained or oppressed in the subsequent crackdown, including Mayors and MPs were Kurds and members of the HDP.

Fetullah Gülen is resident in Pennsylvania, USA, and has consistently been linked to U.S. and Turkish deep state networks. Gülen was a close associate of Turkish President R. Tayyip Erdogan until the two fell out in 2012 – 13.

Speaking about the fact that he was denied visa again Muslim speculated “Otherwise in some ways I think there are some lobbies working against the visas and even the relations between us and the United States. … They don’t want us to come together and talk face to face.”

Turkey designates the PYD and its military wings the YPG and YPJ as terrorist organizations on par and allied with Turkey’s outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The PYD leader implied the possibility that someone from the U.S. administration or Congress could intervene on his behalf when he said “I think it depends on a brave man who just can take me with him to the United States with a direct invitation for me,” he said.

The PYD‘s military wings, the YPG and YPJ have about 60,000 troops and constitute the core of the U.S. supported Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The multi-ethnic SDF and Syrian Arab Coalition supported by the US-led international coalition recently retook the strategic Tabqa dam, airport and city and are poised to launch an imminent assault on the de facto ISIS capital city of Raqqa in Syria.
