Over the weekend, Southern states were hit with devastating tornadoes and flooding, leaving at least 13 people dead and many more injured, reports CNN. Among the hardest-hit states was Texas, where five people were killed.
Two Texas children who escaped death, a two-year-old and an infant girl, had their miraculous rescue captured by video. The compelling footage, which shows a group of Texans working together and calling out to God for assistance, has since gone vial.
A father was traveling with his children in a truck along the Myrtle Springs area before getting caught in the fast flood water, where his truck would flip over.
“TEXAS TORNADO: When Good Samaritans arrived, an infant and a 2-year old were nearly dead. These strangers saved their lives yesterday, near Myrtle Springs,” wrote journalist David Schechter, who posted the video via Facebook.
The footage opens with the truck already flipped in the water as the Good Samaritans work hard to open a door and save the nearly-dead trapped babies.
Speaking with WFAA, the man who performed CPR on the infant girl, Tom Mitchell, explained what happened after the limp infant was retrieved from the truck:
“This baby is gonna die if we don’t start CPR fast,” Tom said. “Having a negative feeling coming over me. This baby may not make it, this baby may not make it. No reaction, nothing is happening.”
Then a woman on scene comes over, steps over Tom’s shoulder, and starts to pray.
“Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe,” she prayed. “Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe.”
“Well the first prayer she said, I felt a response in that child,” Tom says.
As noted by WFAA, “Tom and the Good Samaritans turned their attention to the toddler, who they also revived.”
