The second demonstrator died on Monday afternoon after being shot in the head during clashes with police near the US consulate in Karachi on Sunday, a hospital official said.
“One person was killed and two injured during exchange of fire between the police and protesters, we are trying to control the situation,” AFP quoted Mohammad Irshad, a senior local government official as saying.
The violence took place on Monday in Warai, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Police also fired shots into the air to disperse angry protesters trying to reach the US consulates in the cities of Karachi and Lahore.
Protesters took to streets to voice their anger at the insulting movie produced by an Israeli-American in the United States. They set fire to a police station and a magistrate’s house.
About 3,000 protesters, including university students and teachers, also staged a demonstration in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Monday. Angry protesters chanted anti-US slogans and burnt US flags.
On Sunday, another Pakistani protester was killed, when security forces opened fire on anti-US protesters near the US consulate building in Karachi.
Demonstrations were held in several Pakistani cities, including Quetta, Lahore and Islamabad, with protesters demanding the government to expel the US diplomats.
Outrage and anti-US sentiment is growing across the Muslim world over the obscure movie that insults Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
