It was the moment which earned John Prescott the moniker ‘Two Jabs’.

So it is perhaps a fitting present to give the Labour heavyweight 10 years after he punched a protester who threw an egg at him during the 2001 election campaign.

Today the former Labour deputy leader posted a picture of himself on Twitter wearing a Rocky-style boxing robe with his fists raised.

Wishful thinking: John Prescott tweets a photo of himself saying 'what i got for Christmas.' It seems the politician, nicknamed 'Two Jabs', sees himself as resembling Rocky in his dressing gown

The 73-year-old politician was given the dressing gown – which has a picture of a horse and the inscription ‘Italian Stallion’ on it – as a Christmas present.

For 10 years, John Prescott was Britain’s short-fused, often ridiculed Deputy Prime Minister until he quit the frontline of politics in 2007.

Despite serving as an MP for almost four decades, Mr Prescott is by most remembered more for his out-of-office antics.

Akin to Rocky, Prezza was a man who wrestled with the English language.

He gained notoriety in the English press for muddled speech, mixed-up syntax and incorrect grammar.

In fact, The Guardian columnist Simon Hoggart once commented:
‘Every time Prescott opens his mouth, it’s like someone has flipped open
his head and stuck in an egg whisk.’

He is also remembered for thumping protester farmer Craig Evans who threw an egg at him during a General Election campaign.

After being hit in the neck, the former amateur boxer responded with a straight left jab to the jaw.

While the incident made national headlines and very much overshadowed what he was doing that day – launching the national Labour Party manifesto – Tony Blair’s response was ho hum.

Then Prime Minister, Blair responded simply by saying ‘John will be John’.

Fat lump of worthless blubber

There’s no fool like an old fool, is there? This man continues to be an embarrassment to both the Labour party and to politics in general.

Prescott, the ultimate chav.

There were several causes of Britain’s downfall. Prescott is one of them.

If they gave him liposuction the flab-fat would fill a large wheelbarrow.

I thought this useless article had disappeared for good!

I admire Prescott more and more now. He’s using Twitter very effectively. Shame he didn’t have such a powerful tool when in office.

Quite fitting… After just 3 rounds He and his Labour chums delivered a knockout blow to the entire population of the UK. A few days after the general election, the bruised bloodied reigning champion Labour left the ring allowing the well rested ConDems to continue beating their critically wounded opponent. I just hope the ref steps in soon because as far as I’m aware, tag-team events aren’t recognised in boxing – Nor is hitting us below the belt or kicking us in the teeth… Especially when we’re still out for the count.

Ooh you are missing some things out here. Like the fact that his popularity soared after the “punch up” episode, and that his discussion of his verbal shortcomings in his autobiographies show up your criticism of them for the pompous toffee nosed ridicule that people have tried to throw at him throughout his career. He has it covered, and is way ahead of you.
Most of all though you missed how he is best remembered, not for any of the things you say but for his impromptu speech at the front of the Labour conference that led to the removal of Clause 4 from the Labour rule book, a true milestone in the history of Social Democracy.
Finally you missed out that he’s posted your link on his Twitter account so we can all come here to read your drivel
