Two injured, cattle killed in Dubbo crash

A driver has been thrown from a truck cabin and several cattle are dead after two trucks collided in central NSW.

Two drivers were hospitalised after the collision, which occurred on the Newell Highway north of Dubbo about 6.45pm (AEDT) on Wednesday, police said.

One of the trucks jack-knifed on the highway, ejecting the driver from the cabin. He was airlifted to a Sydney hospital with serious injuries.

The other truck crashed into a tree and rolled onto its side.

The driver suffered only minor injuries, but a large number of cattle on board died at the scene.

A vet and ranger are on the scene assessing the health of the surviving animals.

A section of the Newell Highway is expected to be closed until Thursday afternoon, with diversions in place.
