An under-17s football match in Melbourne had to be called off because of a brawl which left two teenagers needing hospital treatment.
Police had to be called to the Northern Football League (NFL) match on Sunday afternoon after the Lalor Bloods soared ahead of the Lalor Stars by 88 points.
Police said they broke up a melee by escorting players from the WA Smith Reserve in Lalor. The police airwing watched from above.
Paramedics treated two teenagers for minor injuries and took them to separate hospitals.
No one has been arrested.
The NFL declined to comment beyond a prepared statement that confirmed the weekend match had been called off.
“The NFL does not tolerate any behaviour that prohibits the staging of football matches that are safe for all participants and spectators,” the statement said.
“The allegations regarding behaviour at this particular fixture are disappointing and concerning.”
