Two dead in separate tree smashes

Two people have died in separate vehicle crashes, both involving trees, in Victoria on Sunday.

A man in his 30s was driving what police called a “buggy type vehicle” when it ran off the road and struck a tree near Swan Hill, in the state’s north, about 1pm (AEDT), police said.

The man died at the scene on Chillingolah Road.

Earlier, a 35-year-old woman died after her car struck a tree on the Glenelg Highway in the state’s west.

The woman was driving east in a sedan when her car left the road and hit a tree between Lake Bolac and Wickliffe around 10am (AEDT), police said.

The woman, of Heywood, died at the scene.

The state’s road toll now stands at 46, compared with 32 at the same time last year.
