It is not clear whether the airstrikes were carried out by US assassination drones or by the Yemeni air force.
The attacks took place in Abyan Province on Tuesday when warplanes bombarded a residential building in the town of Jaar.
“Eight bodies were pulled out of the rubble,” one witness told AFP. According to local sources, twenty-five civilians were also injured in the air attacks.
Separately, two Yemeni soldiers were killed in fighting between the army and militants in Abyan Province.
The army on Saturday launched a campaign to bombard what it calls militant hideouts in the southern province. Many of the victims however have been civilians.
The US has stepped up its drone attacks in Yemen since President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi took office in February in a single-candidate presidential election.
On Saturday, at least 12 people were killed in two US assassination drone attacks in southern Yemen.
Washington has come under fire for increasing its drone attacks in the Middle Eastern country.
