Turkish forces kill three PKK members

According to local officials, the clashes took place in the Dogubayazit district after the PKK members set fire to two pieces of construction equipment used for road maintenance in the area near the village of Gungoren on April 29, 2012.

The security forces also seized about 21 kilograms of handmade explosives in three separate areas.

The PKK mainly uses northern Iraq to organize its members for armed attacks against Turkey, and Ankara has repeatedly launched airstrikes in the region.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community, including Turkey, Iran, the United States, and European Union member states.

Over 40,000 people have lost their lives since the PKK launched its armed campaign against Ankara in 1984.
