Cavusoglu made the remark on the sidelines of the fourth trilateral meeting between foreign ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey that took place in the Iranian city of Ramsar on Tuesday, and hosted by Mohammad Javad Zarif.
He told reporters that a joint press conference was scheduled at the end of the meeting but was canceled.
“Turkey attaches great importance to trilateral, regional mechanisms,” he told reporters from Turkey’s media, “in addition to the trilateral mechanism between Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan, there is also another trilateral mechanism with Turkmenistan and Georgia, and Azerbaijan taking the central position.”
He deemed Ramsar meeting productive, saying he had held talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart on the recent clashes over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and discussed what Minsk and Turkey will be tasked to do in regard to this issue.
“Ankara’s position is very clear on this issue. We want Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to be solved peacefully within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” he added.
He further maintained that in his bilateral meeting with FM Zarif, he had discussed various aspects of mutual relations as well as preparations for the visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Turkey.
The trilateral meeting was held between foreign ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey – Mohammad Javad Zarif, Elmar Mammadyarov, and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu – during which the three sides discussed regional cooperation, fight against international terrorism, cargo transportation, as well as the development of cooperation in political area.
