TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for cooperation with Iran in the fight against terrorism, saying Ankara favors enhancement of relations with Tehran.
The Turkish president and his Iranian opposite number Hassan Rouhani talked by phone on Tuesday on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the major Islamic festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Thanking Iran for expressing sympathy with Turkey over recent terrorist attacks in Istanbul, Erdogan highlighted the necessity for concerted action against terrorists.
“Through mutual cooperation, we can eradicate terrorism,” he said, calling for close interaction between Turkish and Iranian bodies in battling terrorism.
The Iranian president, for his part, said joint action by Iran and Turkey and more serious moves will “undoubtedly” eradicate terrorism in the region.
He also called for immediate implementation of the agreement that Iran and Turkey have recently signed for cooperation, saying it will mark a major step in the enhancement of bilateral ties.
