nsnbc : As threatened by Turkey’s President R. Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish military forces and allied “rebels” continued attacking the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northern Syria. Some of the attacks appear to have been coordinated with Al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra or made it possible for fighters linked to the internationally outlawed organization to attack YPG forces.
Turkey continued its attaks against the YPG in northern Syria despite condemnations from the governments of Syria, Russia, and the United States, among others. Attacks, starting Wednesday last week prompted the United States to deploy a limited number of troops as deterrent against fighting between Turkey and the YPG. The United States, Russia as well as the Syrian government see the YPG as an important ally in the fight against ISIS.
However, on Maj 1 the YPG reported that Turkish occupying forces and “the gangs under their command” continue to attacks on and violations of the territory of Rojava. On April 28, 2017 an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Turkish military reportedly carried out reconnaissance flights over the villages of Zormixar and Ziyaret around Kobanê.
