Turkey arrests 28 PKK affiliates

The operations against members of the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) were launched at 05:00 a.m. local time Tuesday and lasted for two hours, Press TV correspondent in Ankara said.

KCK is considered the urban wing of the armed group of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

An office of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in Ceylanpinar town in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa was one of the centers searched during the operations.

Operations against KCK are carried out as a parallel campaign with the military operations against the PKK conducted in mountains in southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq.

PKK mainly uses northern Iraq to organize its members for armed attacks against Turkey, and Ankara has repeatedly launched airstrikes in the region.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community, including Turkey, Iran, the United States, and European Union member states.

Over 40,000 people have lost their lives since the PKK launched its armed campaign against Ankara in 1984.
