“I think it would be great if we had a good relationship with Russia, I think it would be great if we had a good relationship with China,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business News on Tuesday.
He noted that the United States could benefit from positive ties with the governments of the two countries.
“I bring people together, I don’t divide,” Trump added.
Relations between Washington and Moscow have turned sour since 2014 in the wake of imposing several rounds of sanctions against Russia over accusations that it was involved in a deadly crisis in Ukraine.
Reunification of Crimea with Russia and claims of Russia’s military operations to support pro-Russia forces in eastern Ukraine are among other reasons.
As for China, the US has accused its government of conducting computer-based attacks, including efforts to steal information from federal agencies.Beijing says Washington’s cyber attack accusations are hypocritical, since intelligence leaks have revealed that the US itself is the most active perpetrator of cyber espionage against foreign countries, especially China.
Furthermore, the US has accused Beijing of carrying out what it calls a land reclamation program in the South China Sea by building artificial islands in the Spratly Islands archipelago, a group of hundreds of reefs, islets, atolls and islands in the South China Sea.China has ignored US warnings, saying it would continue to build the islands.
