In a bid to help make FDA-approved medications more affordable for Americans, President Trump has signed a series of executive orders aimed at stopping Big Pharma from continuing to price-gouge our country.
Prior to their signings, White House spokesman Judd Deere told the media that the Trump administration “continues to explore any and all options that will deliver lower cost drugs, while ensuring we have access to the most innovative vaccines and therapeutics in the world.”
Aligning with his campaign promise to tackle this issue during his first term in office, President Trump says that drug prices are too high, especially compared to what the same drugs cost in other countries.
“One of my greatest priorities is to reduce the price of prescription drugs,” Trump announced during his first State of the Union address back in 2017.
“In many other countries, these drugs cost far less than what we pay in the United States. That is why I have directed my administration to make fixing the injustice of high drug prices one of our top priorities. Prices will come down.”
Despite repeated attempts by Big Pharma to stop Trump from cutting into its massive profit margins, the president is gradually making headway in leveling the playing field for all Americans to gain access to potentially life-saving medicines.
While the full details of these EOs are still being examined, we do know that Trump is pushing for Medicare regulators to eliminate the rebates that drug-makers routinely pay to pharmacy benefit managers.
In addition to this, Trump is demanding that Medicare’s drug payments be reduced to ensure that the U.S. pays no more than any other country for the same drugs.
There is also word going around that hospitals are to receive discounted drugs under the government’s 340B program, which encourages more domestic manufacturing of drugs as opposed to outsourcing to places like India and communist China.
Will the Left still say that “orange man” is bad after he helps make medicine more affordable?
In a statement made earlier this month to Fox Business, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows indicated that these executive orders, of which there are three, “will actually make a big difference.”
“We’re talking about executive orders that will actually make a big difference, lowering prescription drug prices,” Meadows stated.
“This president is going to do three different executive orders that will substantially make sure that the average American gets to pay less for their prescription drugs,” he added.
These EOs come as numerous drug giants, including Novavax Inc., AstraZeneca, and Moderna are gearing up to unveil new vaccines for the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19). Following clinical trials, these vaccines will move on to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for approval, and eventually be unveiled commercially at presumably lower prices than they otherwise would have.
We realize that this issue is a sticky one, especially since the ongoing push for new Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines threatens the health freedom of Americans who are already planning not to get vaccinated.
Lowering drug and vaccine prices might sound good in theory, but when you recognize that many of these drugs and vaccines are unsafe and ineffective to begin with, it almost becomes a moot point from the perspective of true health and wellness.
At the same time, transparent pricing, which is what Trump has been pushing for, would help to ensure that pharmaceutical and vaccine companies produce and sell only what is deemed absolutely necessary, as opposed to setting their sights solely on what is financially lucrative.
“This criminal drug cartel in the USA needs to be shut down, starting with the CDC,” wrote one commenter at The Epoch Times. “We don’t need any more corrupt thieves in the USA.”
