Truckie 4th in a day to die on NSW roads

A truck driver has died after his vehicle rolled down an embankment north of Sydney – marking the fourth fatality in a day on NSW roads.

Emergency services were called to a road near the Colo Bridge about 10pm (AEST) on Friday, following reports of a large semi truck crash.

On arrival, they found the semi had rolled and was halfway down the embankment and the driver was dead at the scene, police said.

No further details are known.

Earlier in the day, two women and a men were killed in three accidents.

About 7.20am, a 23-year-old woman was killed when her Toyota Echo collided with a fully laden cement truck at Yamba, on the north coast. Police said she died in the crash.

The truck driver, a 71-year-old man, has undergone mandatory blood and urine tests and been questioned by investigators.

About 2.30pm, a motorcyclist in his 40s was killed when he collided with a truck about 3km south of Casino in the state’s north. The motorcyclist was found dead at the scene, police said.

Just after 4pm, a woman driver died after her car collided head on with another vehicle on the Camden Bypass at Narellan in Sydney’s southwest.

She died at the scene, but another woman, 50, was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition with chest and abdominal injuries, CareFlight said in a statement.
