Tougher UK visa exploits Indian students

On Sunday July 29, University World News reported that as far as students and consultants are concerned, the UK is being replaced by Canada and Australia as the preferred destinations for graduate study or other higher education options.

Naresh Gulati, chief executive officer of Oceanic Consultants, a leading overseas education agency, said, “The number of students going to study in the UK has declined sharply following the changes to the post-student work visa regulations.”

The Study Overseas in New Delhi, India, confirmed that the number of students travelling to the UK in recent years has rapidly declined.

The number of students going to Britain via Study Overseas has halved as the September 2011 intake, sent 40 students to UK universities, compared to 80 the year before.

The UK dispatched a new visa rule where students can no longer remain in the country to work, but Indian students find this act extremely discouraging.

Anirudh Chail, a student looking for countries to pursue an MBA said, “For the UK, international students have become a means of income. They do not want anything to do with you once you have paid the fee.”
