A two-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car that his mother crashed into a house on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Police say the boy was sitting on the porch of the family’s holiday home in Sorrento with his grandfather, when they were hit last night.

The woman tried to park her car on the front lawn of the property, and police believe she mistakenly hit the accelerator, crashing the car into the veranda.

Neighbours and paramedics tried to save the boy, but he died at the scene.

The man was pinned between the car and the house and suffered serious injuries.

He was flown to the Alfred Hospital.

Neighbours say the boy was crying when he was treated by paramedics, and they thought he was showing signs of recovery.

They say they were shocked to learn that he had died.

Relatives and family friends left flowers on the porch this morning.
