Tiger Woods ‘in good spirits’ after suffering serious injuries in car crash

Tiger Woods has said he is recovering from a serious car crash in Los Angeles and is in “good spirits” after his operations were successful.

Woods, a professional golfer who has won 15 majors, was left with serious injuries including a fractured right leg and shattered ankle after the crash on Tuesday morning.

The golfer, who was in the vehicle alone, had to be cut out of the car after his vehicle collided with a kerb and then a tree before toppling over several times.

Investigators said Woods would have likely died in the crash but managed to survive as his car’s interior stayed mostly unimpaired.

“Tiger and his family want to thank you all for the wonderful support and messages they have received over the past few days. We will not have any further updates at this time,” a statement shared on the golfer’s Twitter account said.

The 45-year-old is being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in LA in the wake of the crash, which did not see any other cars involved.

Woods had been driving in his SUV down an area of road famed for crashes when he hurled off the highway and down an embankment.

Former American president Barack Obama has sent him his best wishes, saying: ”Sending my prayers to Tiger Woods and his family tonight – here’s to a speedy recovery for the GOAT of golf. If we’ve learned anything over the years, it’s to never count Tiger out.”

The golfer will not face any criminal charges for the crash, with LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva telling reporters: “A reckless driving charge has a lot of elements into it, this is purely an accident.”

He noted there is no evidence which indicates the golfer was intoxicated by drugs or alcohol. Woods had already been making a recovery from the fifth bout of back surgery which took place last month.
