Night-time attacks and reprisals have continued in the area since a billiard
hall dispute between a Christian owner and a Muslim customer in January last
year led to sectarian clashes that left at least 35 dead and 50 homes and a
mosque burned.
In the last month there have been several attacks on churches in Nigeria. Last
week gunmen burst into a church and killed five worshippers and on Christmas
day 50 people died in a bombing near the capital Abuja.
