Three arrested over ‘brutal’ killing

THREE people have been arrested over the brutal killing of a man in the Northern Territory.

The suspects, aged 19, 22 and 24, are currently in custody and assisting with the investigation, police said.

Detective Superintendent Richard Bryson said a lot of resources were going into solving the murder of 41-year-old Ray Niceforo, a resident of Katherine, 300km south of Darwin.

Mr Niceforo was the brother of a former Katherine alderman.

His body was found in bushland between Katherine Hospital and Nitmuluk National Park on Tuesday.

“This crime is a particularly brutal homicide,” Det Supt Bryson said in a statement.

“We will continue to dedicate all necessary resources to ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated,” he said.

Det Supt Bryson encouraged anyone who may have information about the death to come forward.

“Community input could change the course of the investigation and help police establish the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Niceforo’s death,” he said.
