Thirteen people arrested at Mardi Gras

Sydney police say they’re pleased with the behaviour of the crowd at this year’s Mardi Gras parade despite 13 arrests.

More than 1000 officers patrolled the city on Saturday night while thousands of people joined in the festivities despite the rain.

Thirteen people were arrested in the CBD, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst areas including for drug, assault and street offences, police said.

“Operation Stockbridge was about ensuring everyone had a good time and celebrated in a safe environment, without fear of drug-and-alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour,” Assistant NSW Police Commissioner Alan Clarke said in a statement.

Police said a contingent of officers who marched in the parade received a positive response from the crowd.
