Third suspect arrested in Ottawa underage prostitution ring

A teenage girl was due to appear Friday in an Ottawa court on human trafficking charges after two other girls were arrested for their alleged roles in forcing teens into prostitution.

Ottawa police said the 16-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday night, and is due to face charges of human trafficking, procuring for prostitution, forcible confinement, robbery, assault and uttering threats.

In a pimping case police described as “shocking,” the three suspects allegedly used social media to lure a trio of other girls, between 13 and 17 years old, to a home at a community housing project in southeast Ottawa. The teens are accused of having offered the victims to adult men for sex.

Police said they believe that in one of the incidents, a victim was drugged.

The two other suspects, both 15, were arrested June 8 and 9 and face the same charges. The minors, whose names cannot be released under Canadian law, appeared in court earlier this week.
