Thieves threatened to kill blind woman

A blind Sydney woman has told how she was terrified when thieves broke into her home and threatened to kill her.

The 83-year-old was sleeping during the early hours of Saturday morning when two men wearing balaclavas broke into her Balmain unit.

“It was the most terrifying ordeal,” the woman told the Nine network.

“I didn’t know that anyone was here. I just heard a noise and I quickly flicked the light on not expecting anyone to be here,” she said.

The woman said one of the two men, then grabbed her by the neck.

“He pushed me to the ground and said, ‘If you don’t give me your car keys I’m going to kill you,'” she said.

When the blind woman failed to produce any car keys because she cannot drive a car and does not own one, the intruders shoved her to the ground and ransacked her home.

A neighbour came to the woman’s aid after she cried for help and the intruders fled.

Paramedics treated the woman for minor injuries and shock.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
