The bumper stickers that you put on your car or truck can say a lot about you. The kind of beer you drink. Your political party preference like if you voted for Obama lol. If you love God and things like that. Harmless, right? Well, not so fast.
According to the Gainesville Police Department in Georgia, many popular bumper stickers can actually help criminals single you out to be their next victim!
The Gainesville Police Department posted this diagram on their Facebook page on Oct. 1, and it shows some common bumper stickers and demonstrates why they might put you at risk.
Honor student bumper sticks tell criminals where your children go to school. Parking pass bumper stickers tell criminals where you work or live and stick-figure family bumper stickers tell criminals details about your family such as your names, how big your dog is and his name and other information that might show that you won’t be home.
Conservative Tribune reports:
Unfortunately for the Gainesville PD, which likely uploaded this picture with good intentions, not everybody appreciated being lectured about the risks of bumper stickers.
“This seems paranoid as hell,” complained one Facebook user.
Another user challenged the department to tell him “one instance where this has actually lead (sic) to a crime.”
Others argued that so long as you carry a concealed weapon, it doesn’t matter what you put on your car.
Still, despite these complaints, the post wound up garnering almost 500 likes and 3,000 shares, meaning that many people appreciated the department’s warning.
The truth is that in this day and age, you can never be too careful.
