These breathtaking shots capture the moment Toronto was almost completely shrouded in winter fog – with just the famous CN Tower peaking through the white blanket.
The tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere and can be seen for hundreds of miles away from the Canadian city.
But with the thick wave of fog visitors could hardly see the 1,815ft tall giant structure – other than the bright lights on its top beaming through.

Breathtaking: These pictures, by Ricardo Gottardo, capture the moment Toronto in Canada was almost completely shrouded in winter fog
The stunning snaps were captured by keen photographer Richard Gottardo, 28, who could not believe his eyes as the spectacular scene unfolded.
Richard, from Toronto, Canada, said: ‘The way the fog sweeps across the city is really strange – when the dew point is just right it slowly rolls into the city from Lake Ontario.
‘It starts at around 11pm and carries on until about 4am at which point it rolls back out to the lake kind of like a breaking wave of fog.
‘The first time I saw it I was amazed as I had never seen anything like it. Since then it has happened a few times as we’ve approached the end of the year and the temperature has been right.

‘Whenever it’s a fairly cool but humid night, I know to expect the fog to start rolling in off the lake – it’s an incredible sight to see.’
The CN tower attracts more than two million tourists every year. In 1995 the American Society of Civil Engineers declared it one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World.
It also belongs to the World Federation of Great Towers where it holds second-place ranking.
