Mashable community members around the world gathered Saturday to celebrate our third-annual . With hundreds of local events and thousands of attendees, the day was a win for all.
From day-long conferences to nighttime networking parties, people recognized the digital revolution in a variety of ways. But all events had one thing in common: celebrating online communities offline.

Meetups took place in all corners of the world. Some of the most well-attended events occurred in Morocco, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and the United States, including San Diego and Cincinnati. Eight cities and two U.S. states officially declared June 30 as Social Media Day this year, making a total of 17 cities and three states that recognize the day.
Mashable hosted successful Social Media Day meetups in both San Francisco and New York City. On the west coast, Mashable staff and fans danced the night away to San Francisco-based DJ duo A Plus D and on the east coast, Wu-Tang Clan legend GZA/The Genius gave a stellar performance that rocked the crowd through the evening.

Nearly 60,000 tweets were sent with hashtag — a big jump from last year’s 43,000. About 35,000 of the mentions came on Saturday alone, when the hashtag was a top Twitter trend for most of the day. Sports leagues, automobile brands, non-profit organizations and media companies alike tweeted Social Media Day well wishes, showing the event’s reach across a wide variety of communities.
