Did I say “stories written in January”? I lied. I wrote this on December 30, but what with New Years, nobody looked at it until January, so I am sneaking it in here. It’s not shipping container housing, but what I call housing containers, “modules of houses that are built to shipping container dimensions to take advantage of the shipping container infrastructure, without most of the problems that actually arise from working with shipping containers.”

Another case where I couldn’t read the title of Mike’s post and not think of that great Looney Tunes cartoon about the singing frog. Irving Berlin’s Hello My Baby certainly wasn’t the most beautiful song in the world but I now cannot get it out of my head.

3. Student designed 70 sq. ft. living pod can be towed with regular car (Video)

Designed and constructed by sixteen students, the OTIS (which stands for Optimal Traveling Independent Space) is an aerodynamic, pod-shaped design, made to be towed on a standard 5 by 8 foot trailer and a four-cylinder vehicle. It has its own rainwater collection system that feeds into the indoor plumbing, in addition to the 120-watt solar panel system to provide electricity. To handle human waste, the OTIS uses a composting toilet.
